Acton highlights Ramaswamy year-round school proposal

Democratic Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton and Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy have already begun the battle for the Buckeye State residents’ votes by attacking each other.

Former Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan recently announced he won’t run for the Buckeye State’s governor, leaving Acton and Ramaswamy fighting against each other.

On Monday, Acton reposted Ramaswamy’s video on her X account, in which he suggested that schools should be “year-round.”

“Make parenting more affordable by making school year-round and going until 4 o’clock instead of 3 o’clock, so you don’t have to pay for childcare,” he said in the video.

In another post on X, Acton claimed that the social media platform has been censoring her account for “simply mentioning her opponent.”

“So just in case my account gets censored or deleted again, here’s your reminder that Vivek Ramaswamy called Ohio workers lazy while he flies around our state on a $80,000/month private jet,” she wrote.

Conservative activists and commentators immediately accused Acton of lying, claiming that the video she presented was generated by artificial intelligence.

“If you’re a candidate and you share AI-altered videos of another candidate and pass it off as reality, you should be fined a lot of money,” Gabe Guidarini of the Ohio Turning Point USA Action chapter wrote.

Host of Timcast IRL, Tim Pool, though not a conservative, also defended Ramaswamy, saying that the Republican candidate never said that.

“If we are playing this game, we are done,” he said.

Acton responded to the criticism by saying that the video is not fake, adding that Ramaswamy’s plans for Ohio are so “backwards” that even his fellow Republicans don’t believe he could’ve actually said it.

After Ramaswamy allegedly edited out the controversial part of his video, anti-Ramaswamy groups posted the full video online.

Instead of addressing the criticism, Ramaswamy attacked Acton for closing schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Dr. Lockdown caused Ohio to be the *first* state to shut down our public schools & lied about the COVID death rates to justify it, even as private schools stayed open,” he wrote. “Those kids in our public schools will never get those years back, while @amyactonoh preaches about ‘inequality.’”

He also accused her of distracting and deflecting because she allegedly wants to cover up her alleged pro-lockdown history.

On Nov. 12, Acton criticized Ramaswamy by bringing up his controversial X post from the last year, in which he wrote that “the American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long.”

“Vivek Ramaswamy told us how he really feels when he said that Ohioans aren’t succeeding because they’re lazy and mediocre and watching too much TV,” she wrote. “That couldn’t be further from what I’m seeing on the ground every day. Ohioans are working harder than ever, they’re doing everything right, and they just can’t get enough breathing room. Ohio needs a governor who listens, understands and who is ready to bring down costs on day one.”
