DeWine says 17 projects will create 2,347 jobs, more than $1.1 billion in investments

Ohio officials announced on Monday that the newly approved 17 projects will create 2,347 new jobs and retain 8,592 jobs in Ohio.

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority reviewed proposals submitted by JobsOhio and its regional partners at one of its monthly meetings, and the projects would create jobs that would enable Ohio workers to earn more than $148 million, according to a press release. Additionally, the proposals will attract investors willing to invest more than $1.1 billion across the Buckeye State.

The press release divided the companies by state region. CCC Plastics USA Inc., Net World Sports, Ltd., and Whirlpool Corporation will boost Central Ohio’s economy.

In Northeast Ohio, it will be Ohio Lumex Co., Inc., Poly6 Technologies, Inc., and Revere Plastics Systems, LLC.

Imasen Bucyrus Technology, Inc., Kalmbach Feeds, Inc., La Linea Verde North America OP LLC, Turbine Standard LTD, JetCat Defense Inc., Cast Holdings LLC, and Wieland Chase, LLC will contribute to the economy of the northwestern part of the state.

Salvagnini America, Inc. and SencorpWhite, Inc. will invest in southwest Ohio.

CareSource Management Services, LLC, Crusoe Energy Systems LLC, Crusoe Cloud Holdings, LLC, Riverain Technologies, Inc., and Supply Technologies, LLC, will target western Ohio.

During an interview with Ohio.News, economists previously questioned the Ohio Tax Credit Authority’s approval of JobsOhio tax incentives for three projects.

“These announcements raise the fundamental question: Why?” John C. Mozena, president of the Center for Economic Accountability, told Ohio.News. “Ohio’s unemployment rate is below 5%, which is historically very low. Employers across the state are having trouble finding qualified employees for mission-critical jobs.”

Ohio.News published five additional reports on JobsOhio, questioning its activities.

Republican Gov. Mike DeWine’s administration sought to improve the state’s economy by implementing various measures, including spending $13.5 million on public transit to help Ohioans find jobs.

“Transportation should never stand in the way of a good job,” DeWine said. “This investment will help more Ohioans get to work and support employers who need reliable, skilled workers.”

Ohio.News previously reported on Ohio’s poor economic conditions, ranking 35th in the Buckeye Institute’s economic freedom report.

“Ohio continues to rank in the bottom half of this year’s economic freedom rankings. While recent tax reforms have boosted Ohio’s score, government spending remains a drag on the state’s overall ranking,” Aswin Prabhakar, an economic research analyst at the Institute, said. “To continue climbing the EFNA rankings, lawmakers must address government spending while building on recent progress in tax policy and labor market reforms.”
