Ohio University president allows anti-Semitic speakers and pro-Hamas student messages

Ohio University President Lori Stewart-Gonzalez, who currently earns $624,240 annually, allowed anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, and pro-Hamas messages to spread around the campus, as the American taxpayers reportedly spent almost $30,000 in 2024 on Ohio University alone.

Stewart-Gonzalez, who has decades of experience in academia, joined Ohio University from the University of Louisville, where she served as Executive Vice President and Provost.

According to Ohio University’s salary database, which was last updated on March 12, Stewart-Gonzalez’s salary is $624,240 per year. In a response to a letter U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, sent to Ohio universities calling on them to develop plans to combat violent antisemitism on campuses, Stewart-Gonzalez on a Sept. 22, 2025, letter condemned anti-Semitism.

“Thank you for your letter and for raising these important concerns. At Ohio University, we condemn antisemitism and all forms of hate, and we are committed to ensuring that every student can learn, live, and thrive in a welcoming environment,” she wrote.

According to Stewart-Gonzalez, “Ohio University has taken significant measures to both prevent and respond to antisemitism,” listing them in the letter.

“Ohio University is dedicated to safeguarding both the religious freedom and the physical safety of all of our students, and we share your conviction that antisemitism and hate have no place on our campus—or anywhere in our country,” she wrote. “Thank you again for your leadership and for engaging us on this critical issue. I would be pleased to keep your office informed as our initiatives continue to advance.”

However, despite these claims, anti-Semitic messages and speakers are still allowed on the campus. The most explicit example of that happened on March 26, when viral anti-Semitic podcaster Myron Gaines, whose real name is Amrou Fudl, visited the campus, allegedly performing a Nazi salute, claiming that the Holocaust’s death toll was exaggerated, and wearing a pro-Holocaust hooded sweatshirt, according to The Times of Israel, The Post, the university’s newspaper, the original video on YouTube, and multiple posts on X.

The leadership at Ohio University also allowed its students to vote on the university’s disclosure of Israel bonds, according to The Post.

Ohio state law, however, currently prohibits public universities, like Ohio University, from divesting from Israel or boycotting related entities, according to the Ohio Laws & Administrative Rules. In other words, any divestment would not happen until Ohio lawmakers in Columbus allow it by passing a bill.

The students at Ohio University also supported the divestment on Instagram while wearing pro-Palestine scarves.

Students for Justice in Palestine previously admitted that its chapters “take their cues” from “National Students for Justice on Palestine and often promote and cross-post the same messaging and ‘calls to action’ on social media and at protests,” according to ADL.

Ohio University’s budget book said that the university received $32.2 million from the federal government. According to another document, the university received $29,490 in Pell grants in 2024.
