One Ohio school fires teacher for anti-Trump post — another distances itself from former contractor

A Cincinnati-area teacher has been fired after a social media post indicating she was disappointed that President Donald Trump was not injured or killed by a would-be assassin at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend.

WXIX-TV/Fox 19 reported that BrightPath Bridgetown Child Care Center fired Corrine Baum, who was instructing young students as of Sunday, after learning about the post.

“Man, there’s been a few creators on here saying that like Friday or yesterday could have been the day and then I wake up to that news, but not THAT news,” Baum said in a 20-second video posted on social media, according to reports.

Baum then sighed in her social media post, adding, “We’re going to have to pay really close attention to what they’re actually trying to distract us from.”

Fox News Channel, citing Baum’s apparently now-deleted LinkedIn profile, reported she was affiliated with The Children’s House, which rebranded as BrightPath in 2023. BrightPath is a network of 12 preschool and daycare centers across the Tri-State region, including its location in Bridgetown.

“Our organization does not tolerate and explicitly condemns any calls for violence,” the school said in a statement, according to the WXIX-TV/Fox 19 report. “The comments made online by this individual are deeply inconsistent with our values. The individual in question has been terminated.”

Federal officials have charged Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, who was himself a former “Teacher of the Month,” with one count of attempt to assassinate the president, transportation of a firearm and ammunition in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Meanwhile, a prep school in Sandusky is distancing itself from a former contractor who worked there.

“I wake up hoping he has died … I go to bed hoping he’s dead … For the love of God just … die,” the purported teacher says in the video.

The school, Monroe Preparatory Academy, appears to have featured the teacher on its Facebook page about eight years ago, but has seemingly since removed the post. In the post, the teacher introduced himself as “the Music Teacher at Monroe Preparatory Academy,” adding that he had “lived in Sandusky Ohio for the last 23 years.”

“Monroe Preparatory Academy recently became aware of offensive social media posts made by an individual who worked at the School nearly ten years ago as part of his employment with a third party vendor,” the school said in a statement on Facebook. “This individual is no longer affiliated with the School, and the views expressed in his postings do not reflect the School’s values, culture, or mission.”

A spokesperson for Monroe Preparatory Academy could not immediately provide additional details.
