Alleged Somali immigrant truck driver, naturalized under Obama, is responsible for a car crash that killed three people
A Columbus truck driver, identified by a federal lawmaker from Ohio as a naturalized citizen from Somalia, is facing vehicular homicide charges after causing a nine-vehicle car crash that killed three people, including a 1-year-old child, on Interstate 71.
According to reports, Modou F. Ngom, 50, from Columbus, was driving a 2006 Freightliner semi-truck northbound when he failed to stop for traffic backed up in a construction zone near the U.S. Route 36 interchange in Delaware County.
Lynnea Soposki, 36, a veterinarian at Muirfield Animal Hospital in Dublin, her husband Luke Soposki, 37, and their 1-year-old baby, Logan, died in the crash, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Three other people involved were injured and transported to a hospital, according to ABC 6.
Ngom was arrested after the crash and has been indicted on three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault, according to reports. In a post to X, U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, said that Ngom originally comes from Somalia and became a U.S. citizen 10 years ago under Obama.
“He is a naturalized Somali national under Obama,” Moreno wrote on X. “Congress must immediately act to give DOT the ability to go after untrained and unqualified truck drivers. An investigation into these horrific accidents is long overdue, and action must be taken.”

The claims could not be verified by The Columbus Dispatch, a spokesperson for the Delaware County Prosecutor, or Ohio.News.
A spokesperson told The Dispatch that Ngom appears to be a U.S. citizen but could not verify any further. Court records and the Delaware County Prosecutor also didn’t say whether Ngom is an immigrant.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that Ngom had no significant criminal record, aside from a traffic ticket. According to NBC 4, citing state documents, Ngom holds a valid Ohio commercial driver’s license and has been a commercial driver in Ohio since at least 2007.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio’s motor carrier division are now investigating last week’s crash, according to The Dispatch.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s office told The Dispatch that no immigration holds had been placed on Ngom, who remained in their custody at the county jail on April 14 on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide.
According to NBBC 4, Ngom owns MFW Carrier, which has been registered in Ohio with a Columbus address since 2013, and is its only driver.
