Sen. Bernie Moreno: Rep. Max Miller ‘should not serve in the House’
A United States senator from Ohio says his former son-in-law, U.S. Rep. Max Miller, “should not serve in the House of Representatives,” but the congressman is vowing to run for re-election in November.
Miller, a Republican, was married to Emily Moreno, the daughter of Republican U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, from 2022 to 2025.
Emily Moreno last week asked a court to issue a restraining order to block Miller from contacting her lawyer following months of allegations against Miller. According to CBS News, citing court documents and police reports, Emily Moreno accused Miller of throwing hot water at her in 2024, pointing a gun at her last year, throwing her against a wall in February during a custody exchange, and “causing their daughter to suffer a clavicle fracture and handprint-shaped bruise.”
“If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them,” Bernie Moreno said in a post to X. “He should not serve in the House of Representatives. I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake.
“…Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller’s increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible,” the senator added. “As he has admitted privately, Max Miller needs serious psychological help,” the senator added. “He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter.”
Miller has denied the allegations and held a livestream on Aug. 2 on X.
“Just want to be clear: no court, no agency has ever substantiated any allegation of abuse against me, no criminal charge has ever been filed against me,” Miller said, per Time. “Every single one of these allegations were already investigated, and I cooperated fully every single time because I had nothing to hide and I have nothing to hide now.”
Axios reported that Wednesday is the deadline for Miller to withdraw from the race. Republicans would have until Aug. 10 to fill a vacancy through a party committee.
