Vance headed to Toledo to tout Trump’s accomplishments

Ohio native and Vice President JD Vance will appear in Toledo on Thursday to highlight the economic efforts during the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term.

The vice president is set to visit an “industrial shipping facility” in the city and “deliver remarks highlighting the Trump Administration’s commitment to lower prices, bigger paychecks, and creating more good-paying jobs in Ohio and across the Midwest,” the White House said.

With Vance’s appearance in the Buckeye State, Republicans are seizing the opportunity to tout the president’s efforts to lower gas prices and bring down inflation, while calling out Democratic U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, who has been in office since 1983.

During former President Joe Biden’s four years in the White House, consumer prices increased by 21.5%, and gas prices rose by 31%. After adjusting for inflation, private-sector average weekly earnings shrank 4%, the liberal-leaning Fact Check was forced to concede.

Republicans noted that Kaptur, whose district voted for Trump by 11 points in 2024 and is expected to face a tough re-election this year, voted to impeach Trump and called for his removal from office. They also noted that while she voted with former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris 90% of the time, Kaptur, unsurprisingly, cast ballots against Trump 70% of the time.

“If there’s the chance to oppose Trump, Marcy Kaptur is going to take it, even if it means hurting Ohioans,” RNC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar said in a statement. “Meanwhile, the Trump Administration is helping working families with more jobs, lower costs, and safer communities. Kaptur is a genuine do-nothing Democrat who is toast come November.”

Vance, who represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate before his tenure as vice president, is also expected to visit Minneapolis on Thursday. He is scheduled to hold a roundtable with local leaders and community members and deliver remarks focused on “restoring law and order” in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
