U.S. Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, officially announced on Friday that he will run for reelection, potentially facing off against a former, long-time Democratic U.S. Senator.

Husted told Fox News that he is running “because too many people in Washington have forgotten what it’s like to live, work, and raise a family in Ohio.”

The lawmaker added that if he is reelected, he will work to lower prices and create new jobs in the Buckeye State to make America more “affordable again.” On the federal level, he also promised to secure the country’s borders.

The last immigration-related remark comes after President Donald Trump canceled the temporary status of Haitians who’ve been living in Ohio.

“Any document signed by Sleepy Joe Biden with the Autopen, which was approximately 92% of them, is hereby terminated, and of no further force or effect. The Autopen is not allowed to be used if approval is not specifically given by the President of the United States,” he wrote.

Husted told the Statehouse News Bureau that he is confident he will win the race and criticized his potential Democratic opponent, Sherrod Brown.

“Sherrod Brown just spent $300 million on his election around a year ago and lost by over 200,000 votes,” Husted said, adding that even though Brown is “probably as well known as anybody in the history of Ohio politics,” he still lost because he is allegedly very unpopular.

Brown has until February to file for the race, according to the news source.

The Statehouse News Bureau reported that a person who wins the race will have to run for reelection in 2028 for a full six-year term.

Husted began preparing for the 2026 election by releasing a 15-second ad on social media that reminded Ohio voters that Trump endorsed him.

“Ohio needs conservative champion Jon Husted in the U.S. Senate,” the narrator said in the ad.

Trump endorsed Husted on Truth Social, writing that the lawmaker “is doing an incredible job as Senator for the Great State of Ohio.”

“Jon is a wonderful man, has ALWAYS delivered for Ohio, and will continue doing so in the U.S. Senate,” Trump wrote. “He is working hard to Create Jobs, Lower Costs, Promote Products and Services MADE IN AMERICA by our incredible Ohio Workers, Support our Great Farmers, Champion Innovation, Secure our Border, Stop Criminals, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, and Strongly Protect our always under siege Second Amendment.”

He also wrote that Ohioans can count on Husted because he would “fight to advance Common Sense Values, and put AMERICA FIRST.”

“Jon Husted has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN,” Trump wrote.
