Husted pushes back against China and Russia, proposes $60 million to the military

U.S. Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, along with other lawmakers, proposed two pieces of legislation to confront China and Russia, as well as a third bill that would provide $60 million to the American military.
Husted and Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La., Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, sent a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to request the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States review the sale of Epic! Creations for a company that is currently located in China, according to a press release.
“We cannot now allow China to make inroads into our elementary school systems to indoctrinate a young generation of American students,” the lawmakers wrote.
Husted also collaborated with Sens. Dave McCormick, R-Pa., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Christopher Coons, D-Del., to introduce the Decreasing Russian Oil Profits, or DROP, Act of 2025, which would impose financial sanctions on any country that purchases Russian oil.
China is one of the largest consumers of Russian oil, so this bill would also heavily affect the communist regime. Among other countries that buy Russian oil are India, Turkey, and Iran.
The lawmakers said in a press release that by buying Russian oil, they fund Russia and, therefore, the war it started in Ukraine.
“This bill sends a clear message to the world that there will be consequences for continuing to buy Russian oil,” Husted wrote. “Congress will also no longer tolerate the hypocrisy of nations that condemn Vladimir Putin’s actions on the world stage while funding his war machine through shady oil purchases.”
He added that if American allies and trade partners want to buy oil, they can always buy it from the United States.
“For those countries that insist on buying Russian, this bill will encourage them to step up and provide support to Ukraine,” he wrote.
Husted also voted to pass the fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, which would secure $60 million to support Ohio military installations and strengthen America’s leadership in national security.
“The investments in this bill will help build the next generation of American defense, strengthening the safety and security of our nation,” he wrote. “The men and women who serve our country and sacrifice every day for our freedoms deserve the very best, innovative, Made-in-America technology.”
According to Husted, the bill will also deliver a “much-needed pay raise for active-duty personnel” of the U.S. Armed Forces.
