New ad targets Marcy Kaptur over vote against Working Families Tax Cut

American Action Network has launched a new ad targeting Democratic U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, saying the Toledo area lawmaker, who has served in Congress for more than four decades and was recently injured in a hit-and-run crash, has voted for higher taxes.

The group, described by Axios as “a top outside group aligned with House GOP leaders,” specifically cites the Working Families Tax Cut, which it says provides the largest tax cut in American history by reducing taxes on tips and overtime and lowering Social Security beneficiaries’ taxes. They also decried Democrats for focusing on what they see as “radical priorities,” including taxpayer-funded sex changes for minors.

“Tell Congressman Marcy Kaptur: Use our tax dollars to help us, not to fund her extreme agenda,” the ad says.

The new ad is part of a nationwide $22 million “summer issue advocacy campaign” and a $1 million campaign in Ohio. The ads, which will run in 41 congressional districts nationwide, aim to highlight the “stark contrast between conservatives and liberals on lowering costs and federal spending priorities.”

“Conservatives put working families first by delivering historic tax relief,” AAN President Chris Winkelman said in a release.

“Meanwhile, far-left lawmakers are obsessed with radical ideas—like raising your taxes and making you pay for sex-change surgeries for kids,” Winkelman added. “AAN is going to keep calling out these policies for what they are: bad for your wallet and wrong for American families.”

Kaptur, who has served in Congress since 1983, was the passenger in the car driven by her campaign manager, Kegan Zimmermann, on Aug. 2, when another motorist crashed into the vehicle. Toledo police are remaining tight-lipped about the driver of the other vehicle.

Aside from her crash and recovery, Kaptur, who served as an urban policy advisor during Democratic President Jimmy Carter’s one term in office, has faced questions about her record and her funding. Kaptur has accepted money from a pro-transgender PAC for several years, and she has consistently pushed the ideology by either voting or not voting for different bills.

American Action Network is launching ads in 23 Republican held districts and 18 Democratic-held districts, including two in Ohio. It has also launched an ad supporting Republican Eric Conroy in Ohio’s First Congressional District, who is hoping to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Greg Landsman, who has served since 2023.

With the ad buys, the group said its total investment has reached a record $62 million in a single Congress.
